TIANJIN FCL / SHIPMENT PREPARATION

Steel Pipe Exports from Tianjin: What to Check Before Choosing a Container

A pipe shipment needs more than a total weight and a destination. Use this information checklist before asking a loading provider and forwarding contact to review equipment.

Discuss this shipment ↗

1. Measure the packed bundle, not only the pipe

For steel pipe FCL exports from Tianjin, “20 tonnes of pipes” is not enough to choose a container. Prepare the longest packed length, bundle width and height, bundle count, each bundle’s gross weight and total gross weight, all with units. Include protection, pallets or skids in the packed dimensions. Identify capped ends, coatings or protrusions that affect handling.

State whether the pipes are loose, strapped in bundles or packed another way, and whether bundle sizes vary. Provide a packing list and clear photographs or a sketch with measurements. Hide customer details in photographs shared for an initial review.

2. Review fit, access and weight separately

QuestionInformation to review
Will it enter?Packed dimensions, door opening and the planned loading movement.
Will it fit inside?Usable internal space, cargo arrangement and room needed for handling and securing.
Can the weight be carried?Actual equipment limits, cargo and securing material weight, weight distribution and applicable transport restrictions.
Can it be loaded and discharged?Available loading method at origin and equipment/access at the receiving site.

20 GP, 40 GP and 40 HC are enquiries for review, not automatic recommendations. Extra height does not resolve a length or heavy-load problem. Carrier equipment guides are examples: verify the actual container and the complete movement rather than treating one published specification as a universal limit. Do not assume diagonal loading or overhang will be accepted.

3. Agree who reviews loading and securing

Tell the forwarding contact whether loading is planned at the factory or a warehouse, what handling equipment is available, and how the buyer will unload. Ask the responsible packing/loading provider to review the arrangement, support, weight distribution and securing for the actual cargo and equipment. Photos alone are not an approved loading plan.

This guide does not calculate lashing forces, approve lifting points or certify a loading arrangement. The qualified responsible parties must make those decisions. If standard dry equipment is unsuitable, request a separate feasibility and acceptance review; this page does not promise special-equipment availability or our acceptance of oversized cargo.

4. Keep destination handover in the same discussion

For Jebel Ali, distinguish discharge at the port from delivery to a named UAE warehouse. For Jeddah, name the Saudi discharge port and the destination contact reviewing receiving arrangements. In both cases, ask whether the consignee can handle the proposed bundles and container at the unloading location. Do not postpone this question until the cargo has departed.

Provide the exact commodity and treatment/coating details where relevant. Describe any other substances or special conditions separately for review. A description of steel pipes does not establish acceptance of other or dangerous cargo.

5. Send a pipe-specific brief before choosing the box

Technical references and limits

Hapag-Lloyd container guide ↗ states that its equipment specifications are examples and can vary by manufacturer (undated; checked 21 October 2026). This is a reference for equipment review, not evidence of our carrier relationship.

IMO / ILO / UNECE CTU Code overview ↗ describes the 2014 non-mandatory global packing code (checked 21 October 2026). It is background for consulting the responsible packing specialists, not a shipment-specific approval or a replacement for applicable requirements.
